Josephine confided the building project for the Petite Malmaison to the architect Berthault, in 1805.This edifice did in fact combine the charm of a private dwelling with that of an animated households, in the midst of venerable trees. The empress puts all she has into embellishing the “Petite Malmaison” did one aspect of this enterprise is a large greenhouse, heated for the growth of very rare tropical plants.
