Touristic heritage guide
Located 8 kilometres west of Paris, in the Hauts-de-Seine department, Rueil-Malmaison counts 77.000 inhabitants and its 1.472 hectares gently slope towards the north from the heights of Mont Valerien and Buzenval hills to the banks of the Seine.
The memory of the few years of happiness that Bonaparte and Josephine shared here is deeply rooted in the city of Rueil-Malmaison, a living recollection of this period of our history.
In the historic city center, keeping its village-like atmosphere, stands Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul Church, that has been classified as Historical Monument. The banks of the Seine, marking the entrance of Impressionists’ Land, unveil, even nowadays, the traces of their history. While enjoying the famous open-air cafés located along the banks of the river, many artists such as Renoir, Monet and Manet have immortalized these landscapes in their most well-known paintings.
