About : The Museum of Local History

The former town hall of Rueil in Second Empire style, a copy of that of
Fontainebleau in stone and red brick, was inaugurated in 1869.
Its façade is adorned with the Imperial Eagle and the shield granted to the city by Napoleon III. The famous people of the city are represented : Richelieu, Empress Josephine, Napoleon III...

The various rooms of the Museum bring together, by theme, the works, objects and memories that make up the memory of Rueil. One can discover 1,800 figurines representing Napoleon’s Great Army, the Laundry room, the Edouard Belin room, inventor of the Belinograph (forerunner of the fax) and the Eugene Capelle room evoking the history of the postcard and, in particular, many photographs of Rueil in the early 20th century.

From May 2016, the museum invites you to discover the rites and funerary beliefs of ancient Egypt around TA-ISET. In 2000, city officials discovered in a cumbersome Ptolemaic mummy and call the Local History Museum. The transcript of the inscription painted on the mummy reveals the name and sex of the deceased, a little girl of 4 or 5 years named TA-ISET, "The Isis".
