About : Exposition Sempé, itinéraire d'un dessinateur d'humour

With a part telling the story of the birth of Petit Nicolas with René Goscinny and a space more directly devoted to Paris, this important retrospective, part of which was hosted at the Musée Mer Marine in Bordeaux last summer, presents more than 200 original drawings, including one vast majority of unpublished.

Many know the work of Jean-Jacques SEMPÉ thanks to his albums or his regular publications in various French or foreign newspapers. Few know that hundreds of unpublished drawings remain in the boxes of his workshop that can reconstruct the amazing journey of a stubborn worker.

Gradually, the dry and rough line gains in precision, in fluidity. The clever gags of the beginnings give place to a constant worry of the details and the decorations. Observer disconcerted and amused by the world around him, the designer comes to auscultate, casually, the human soul by playing the disproportion of situations, roles, thoughts or comments of his characters.
