About : [GROUPES] Visite guidée de l'exposition "Peindre dans la vallée de la Creuse"

The works presented in the exhibition trace the history of the artistic center of the Creuse Valley, which stands out in 1832 thanks to Jules and Victor Dupré who attract other landscape painters in search of picturesque motifs.
An important part of the exhibition will be devoted to Impressionist landscapes around two major figures: Claude Monet and Armand Guillaumin. The first begins the series principle by making seventeen pictorial variations of the same motif, the last one works there for nearly 30 years and transforms the Creuse into an artistic reference site using, well before the first Fauves, the pure colors. About twenty of his works will, exceptionally, be presented at Atelier Grognard.

Between 1900 and 1930, the landscapes of the Creuse continue to attract painters in search of plastic innovations such as Othon Friesz or Francis Picabia, but the impoundment of the Eguzon dam in 1926 puts an end to this Creusoise adventure that has welcomed , for nearly a century, more than 400 artists from all over Europe.

The importance of the artistic center of the Creuse in the history of art has long been evaded while many major pictorial experiments took place there. The conception of this unpublished exhibition is the result of an important work carried out under the supervision of Véronique Alemany, curator of the exhibition and art historian. Many works of art, never shown in Ile-de-France, have been restored for the occasion.
